Welcome to Scottish Putting

SCOTTISH PUTTING IS NOT FOR THE
PAMPERED AND SPOILED

Four hundred years ago the golf courses in Scotland were not the immaculately groomed ones that today's pampered and spoiled golfers are used to. For hundreds of years, those Scottish courses were carved out of the wild heathers and moors and were rough and tough - a real test of skill! Were there bare spots, pebbles, weeds, etc.? Of course! And, the greens were mowed by scythes and sickles!

SCOTTISH PUTTING IS FOR WARRIORS!

1457 A.D. - King James II of Scotland banned golfing because it was interfering with his warriors' archery practice!

SCOTTISH PUTTING IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART

"THE STYMIE" is a tough, nasty rule and one of the main reasons golf swept to popularity world-wide hundreds of years ago! (Or, the "Stimy" as it was spelled hundreds of years ago.) The stymie rule is that you cannot mark a ball on the green, and if a ball is in the way, you may hit it with your ball or chip over it or curve around it or play off another ball, etc. THE TRUE WARRIOR RELISHES THE CHALLENGE!

SCOTTISH PUTTING IS NOT FOR THE FAIR WEATHER GOLFER OR THE SQUEAMISH

Loose impediments included . . . "dung, worm-casts, molehills, snow, ice, watery filth, etc. . ." Golfers are expected to . . . "exert their best efforts in the face of difficulties. Inefficient play or carelessness will not be rewarded and bad manners will not be tolerated."

SCOTTISH PUTTING IS NOT FOR THE WEAK

A round of golf was 22 holes for hundreds of years. In 1938 the United States Golf Association modified the stymie and eliminated it completely in 1952. A round of Scottish Putting is 22 holes.

WITHOUT THESE ELEMENTS, GOLF ISN'T GOLF

So, return with us to those thrilling days of yesteryear!

- WHEN can you play Scottish Putting? . . . ANYTIME!

- WHERE can you play Scottish Putting? . . . Anywhere you can carve out a putting green, like your backyard (or, if you have a BIG yard, an entire 22 hole course!)

The first "SCOTTISH INTERNATIONAL PUTTING AND GOLF INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT" was held this past fall at Scottish Putting and Golf Course #1 at 17 Nancy Lane, Iron Springs Park, Washington state, USA.

The second "SCOTTISH INTERNATIONAL PUTTING AND GOLF INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT was held on the third Saturday of September, 2003, which was the 20th.

The Third Annual Tourney was held in Saint Augustine, Florida on December 18, 2004. The hurricanes destroyed two courses and the final course was playable on a Friday. The amateur winner was Nora Greene (our 1st lass to win) and the pro winner was Charles Campbell (our first true Scotsman to win!).

Last year one of the contestants ate a golf ball. This year, one swallowed a golf club.

The 2005 & 2006 Tournaments were cancelled due to bad weather.

SO, LASSIES AND LADDIES, ENJOY THE THRILL OF GOLF AS IT WAS PLAYED BY WARRIORS!

The rules of Scottish Putting are currently being compiled by the rules committee of the ANCIENT AND HONORABLE SCOTTISH PUTTING AND GOLF COMPANY OF THE AMERICAS." The Professional Scottish Putting and Golf Association is currently working on its own rules.

The Professional Scottish Putting and Golf Company of the Americas has approved construction of Scottish Putting Course No. 2 in St. Augustine, Florida and No. 3 in Hoquiam, Washington.
